What this means to you:

  • Our community assessment and action plan provide a framework for action to ensure owner safety and minimize damage from wildfire.
  • Encourages community building through education and Firewise activities.
  • Improves access to grants and matching funds for community wildfire mitigation.
  • Firewise designation helps keep insurance rates affordable.
  • Helps maintain TVW property values.

  • Community slash pile collection and mulching
  • TVW annual clean-up and Firewise Day – May 6th, 2023

TVW Firewise Activities and Grants

Forest Restoration & Wildfire Risk Mitigation Grant (FRWRM) – completed July 2022

Accomplishments: 2018 - 2022

  • 2019 - Team Rubicon Wildfire Mitigation Operation
  • 2019 - Western Wood Products salvage harvest – 4.16 acres
  • 2020 - Mile High Youth Corps (MHYC) Fuel Reduction & Fire Mitigation
  • 2022 - Chris Dotter forestry mulching & roadside clearing
  • Firewood removal and donation to LEAP
  • Multiple TVW Work / Chipping Days and Wildfire Preparedness Day events
  • Individual Lot Owner HIZ and D-space mitigation; cost share with Huerfano County

Spring Fire Restoration Program Summary – completed September of 2022

  • Land Life Reforestation and Carbon Offset Agreement
  • Approved by BoD 9/27/21 and POA at special meeting 10/8/21.
  • EcoCulture planted in Sept of 2022 40,000 seedlings on 150 acres of common area burn scar.
  • American Forests seedling grant for homeowners
  • Ecoculture planted 4275 seedlings on 9 private lots, 28.5 acres.

Concluded the Spring Fire Restoration Program and WRSC

  • North boundary fence replacement
  • East valley road repair included in road improvement activities.
  • Firewise committee managed the reforestation activities.
  • Very successful program that leveraged multiple resources
  • Other sources of funding: insurance settlement, FRWRM & BLM grants, NRCS cost share, and Life Company, Ecoculture RCFF seedling program
  • Volunteer organizations: Americorps, UMCOR, Huerfano County
  • Last, but not least: ALL OF YOU

Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Wildfire Mitigation & Restoration Grant – Completed 2022

  • Continued the mitigation and shaded fuel break created south of Lost Lake / trail.
  • Burnt trees west of Lost Lake were cut and placed for erosion control.
  • 6.5 acres mitigated; 2560 cu-yd of material mulched.
